Hi, Whitney, welcome!! There is no reason that you have to keep designs in other formats. Having said that I need to add that, at some point, you may well become an Embroidery Addict and have more than one machine... and, if that happens, it is likely you will have more than one brand of machine and need a variety of formats. Of course, you can always use conversion software to make changes but it is nice to have a tested, optimized file when it is available. You might want to keep the original files in a folder and periodically save them to a disk so you can go back and find other formats but do not have to keep them on your computer. This also helps in case you have a computer crash. For example, I have a Janome MC9500 and it uses the JEF format. Well, many times when I download a design it downloads all formats (PES, HUS, etc). Do I need to keep these other formats if my machine only takes JEF or are they just taking up space? I would love to delete them to cut down on the clutter...
