Welcome to Cansoap, the soapmaking list dedicated to Canadian Soapmakers. Cansoap is a fun list where you can exchange information on Canadian suppliers, recipes and experiences relating to soap & toiletries. It is also a great resource for information about Canada Health guidelines for producing and labelling cosmetic product. While this list is a wonderful place to connect with Canadian soapers and obtain Canadian oriented information - the list is open to anyone who is interested in soap & toiletries. This list is for the members and should reflect what the majority of the members want. If you have any suggestions please let us know. If you have any questions or concerns about anything to do with the list, please contact and either Leanna or a moderator will respond. We don't have a lot of rules, but the ones we have are strictly enforced. 1. NO FLAMING Cansoap is a list where all opinions are valued and there are no "stupid questions". Mutual respect is a requirement. There are many methods of soap and toiletry making and they are all valid. Cansoap is for exchanging information, not promoting personal preferences. No personal negative comments allowed about another members' opinion. If you are in doubt about the appropriateness of an shop you are planning to send to the list, contact and we will advise. People who flame on the list or privately (member to member) will be put on moderated status after one warning. This includes talking negatively about a member. It is important to acknowledge that we all have different experiences and preferences. Saying "anyone doing such-and-such is completely crazy and shouldn't be doing that." would be flaming - however, saying, "It is my or "In my experience..." is an exchange of information without judgement and keeps the dialogue open. Each thread should be an exchange of information and a learning experience. If threads go to a personal level, tempers can flare and that will not be tolerated. 2. SPAM Spam is absolutely not tolerated. If it comes to our attention that members are being targeted for spam through the list the member will be banned immediately. If any Spam is sent to the list, the member will be banned immediately. 3. ADS Cansoap Ad Days are Mondays only. You are welcome to freely post your Business sales, Services, Co-ops, Pre-buys, Garage sales, Fast-buys, Trades, or what-have-you on Mondays ONLY once the following are met: A) You MUST pre-register and get pre-approval for posting from the by submitting the following personal information to : Your Real Name (first and last) ________ Your Business Name and Website (if applicable): _________ Your Mailing Address: _________ Your Telephone Number: ___________ Your shop Address: __________ This information must be kept up to date please and will be collected and held in confidence by the listmom (Leanna ) and is for the protection of Cansoap members as well as serve to cut down on spam. It also shows there really is a human being behind each Ad. :o) B)You MUST be a member of Cansoap for a minimum of one month before you may post on Ad Day Monday. Any member posting their Ad, co-op, reminder, etc on any day other than Monday will be put on moderated status. If any member continually abuses Ad Day policy, their posting privileges may be revoked or they may be banned from the group. Any to your Ad posting, (other than on Mondays when you can freely post), should be sent to for approval. If it is not Monday, DO NOT post directly to Cansoap or this will result in you being placed on moderated status. 4. SUPPLIER INFORMATION Suppliers may not promote their businesses on the list. (You can, however, include a link to your business or website in your signature line.) If a member requests information about where they can locate a certain item, suppliers may contact the individual privately AS LONG AS THE MEMBER HAS INDICATED THEY WILL ACCEPT PRIVATE shopS. Non-suppliers can respond directly to the list. This promotes exchange of information without opening the door to our members being bombarded with unsolicited product information. Members may post to the list if they locate a good source for any supplies. Any abuse of this will result in the member being moderated. (Abuse would be if your best friend was Sally's Soap Supplies and you continually promoted her on the list.) There is a list of Canadian suppliers in the links section of Cansoap. Suppliers may add their own information to the appropriate links section or request to have their information listed there by contacting the list moms at 5. RECIPES Recipes are always welcomed. Any published (copyrighted) recipes cannot be posted to the list without the written permission of the author. To do so is copyright infringement. As a courtesy, if you have an uncopyrighted recipe (one you got from a friend or from another list) please ensure the author is okay with the recipe being passed along before doing so. The same goes for recipes you want to pass on from this list -- courtesy is to ensure it is okay first. list is for the members and should reflect what the majority of the members want.
