AABC Check-In .. Thursday 4/24

Last night I had dreams about past jobs I had thru active addiction. I was recalling my love for the work I did, but amazingly was not regretting drinking away that career or even missing it. I do not want that old life anymore. The insanity made me shake my head with disbelief that I carried on for so long in that drunken stuper. The Daily Reflection today reminds us we should learn to love ourself. I am content with my new career and overjoyed at who I am today. I can look in the mirror and be satisfied with what I see - a much healthier (physically, mentally, spiritually) person who enjoys life and going to work each day. It took me a long time to separate myself from my old career - I used to allow that job to define who I was. I carried around a BlackBerry and my talked about ME and MY job wherever I went - now when it's 5pm I leave work at work and not fear it or stress over it or let it bring me into a negative mindset. Today I can be who I want to be - a family man, a hard-working employee, a brother, son, son-in-law, and most importantly a loving, caring father. This change has only been possible for me because I carry the principles of the program into all my affairs. The Daily Reflection today says it best: "Alcoholism was a lonely business....." ".....the Twelve Steps taught me to become my own best friend, and then, when I was able to love myself, I could reach out and love others".
